The service covers all bus companies and is a partnership between bus companies, local councils and Traveline Scotland. You can get the bus times for ANY bus stop in Scotland. You can customise your message too, to allow you to pick a destination, a specific bus service, time period or date. The service is automated and operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Why not store the code of your favourite stop in your phone? You can then check it's times from anywhere. All codes are 8-digit numbers, and are obtainable individually on the relevant bus stop flag, or online from www.planajourney.co.uk or www.dundeetravelinfo.com. You're probably familiar with texting your friends already and you might even use your own short-hand or symbols when you text them. txt2traveline works in the same way. Your message might simply consist of the bus stop code but, by using dots (.), exclamation marks (!) or question marks (?), you can customise your message the way you want. Check out the examples below to find the message most suited to you :
For Next Departures (on any service), simply text the bus stop code e.g. text 3632374 for buses from Apollo Way East, to 0777 608 2 608
For Next Departures on a specific route, text the bus stop code followed by an exclamation mark and then the bus service number e.g. text 3632374!42 for Service 42 buses from Apollo Way East, to 0777 608 2 608
For Next Departures to a Specific Destination, text the bus stop code followed by a dot and then the destination village/town name e.g. text 3632374.arbroath for buses from Apollo Way East to Arbroath, to 0777 608 2 608
For Next Departures to a Specific Destination on a Specific Route, text the bus stop code followed by a dot, the destination village/town name, an exclamation mark and bus service number e.g. text 3632374.perth!54 for Service 54 buses to Perth from Apollo Way East, to 0777 608 2 608
For Departures After a Specific Time on a Specific Date of the Current Month, text the bus stop code followed by a question mark, the 24-hour clock time and the date e.g. text 3632374?170009 to 0777 608 2 608 to get the times of the buses from Apollo Way East after 5pm (1700) on the 9th (09) of this month. The destination must be reachable from your chosen stop by a direct bus service. At present, txt2traveline cannot give details of connecting services.
The text messages you send are not case sensitive so you don't have to worry about using capital letters or lower case letters. Any destination you key in as part of your message should simply be a town or village name - there's no need to specify an exact stop. It doesn't matter which order you place each item within your message except for the bus stop code which MUST always come first. After that, the time, route or destination can be in any order as long as they are preceeded by the correct symbol. So, remember that ROUTE = ! DESTINATION = . TIME/DATE = ?
To request buses after a specific time on a specific date, you must use the 24-hour clock time followed by the 2-digit date of the current month. For example, keying ?091505 after the bus stop code will return bus times for your chosen stop after 9.15am (0915) on the 5th (05) of the current month.
